When planning my journalism piece, I used two methods to help me plan out my idea so I could convey the different points that I wanted to present. These 2 tools I used were mind maps and the 5 W’s, (Who,What,Where,When and Why). I found that the mind maps were very helpful in early stages of planning for my write up, as it really helped me to gather ideas so I could use these main points that I had thought of, and use these points as a structure to what I would be writing about. The 5 W’s helped me when I was at the stage of preparing for the first draft as I used this method to really solidify what I would be talking about, this really helped me to make sure that when I was writing, that I would not be waffling on about something and getting off of the subject. Overall, both of these methods really benefiited me when I was in the planning stages for different reasons.
Mind maps were helpful for my very early stages of planning, as this allowed me to brainstorm ideas and use these ideas as a foundation for what I would be writing about. Overall, Mind maps helped me alot in the early planning stages and I used this tool as a way to get a beginning foundation of what I would be writing about.
The 5 W’s were a great tool to use in the final stages of planning as this would allow me to get a structure, so I could begin writing my firts drafts. Overall, the 5 W’s were very beneficial to planning the structure so I would not go off of the subject when I was writing.
Questionaire’s were helpful in the research stage, they allowed me to personally see what people were thinking about my chosen subject and it allowed me to personally to see other people’s views as you can never be so certain that research is reliable unless it is primary research made by yourself.
Secondary research was the most helpful in the research stages, it allowed me to gather information that would relate with my chosen subject and would give me a better insight to the subect as I can use this information to help make my own journalism piece more factual.
Interviews were helpful as I could use quotes said by a certain person and it would allow me to persoanlly ask questions that I would like to ask.
Social media platforms were helpful for my subject as I was writing about the effects that social media has on Formula 1, so I used various social media platforms to compare data such as growth in views and following over the years.
