Evaluation

Your own performance throughout the FMP:

Throughout the Final Major project, I feel like I performed well in terms of keeping up to date with the work load and not falling behind on parts of the project, this allowed me to have enough time so therefore I didn’t have to rush through parts if I had fell behind. I planned out my actual production well as I had  entered the production days with thought out planning of the type of shots that I was trying to capture on the day of the shoot.

Throughout My FMP I learnt a variety of practical skills such as learning how to setup the camera in the settings such as getting the right shutter speed and ISO etc. so I could capture the image I need without getting overexposure or blurriness to my images.

Your thoughts on the final product:

Overall, I think that I did pretty well with my Final Major Project. I stepped out of my comfort zone with this project and decided to chose photography over a film for my FMP. I chose this because I wanted to do something different so I could branch out and improve my skillset. I set out to my shoot location with a plan before hand of where I was going to stand to take my photos. I needed to do this in my research stages as Donnington park is a big location to shoot so I wouldn’t want to waste my time when I’m there thinking of where I am going to stand.

How did you maintain professionalism throughout the project?

I maintained professionalism throughout my FMP by abiding by rules set by the race officials at Donnington park. I abided by the rules that were set such as photographers keeping out or areas restricted to them so I do not get put into dangerous situations that could be life threatening for me and others. For this project I did not need to get people to sign release forms for me to have permission to take photographs as the public are allowed to take photos at the circuit.

Strength and weakness:

I think the main strengths for me for this project was time management, in the past I wasn’t the best when it came to time management. For this project , I went into it with a main focus on time management , I wanted to get this project done and not leave lots of stuff till the last minute. A weakness for me during this project was actually taking the photos, I found it difficult to get the right amount of blur to show speed but not make it to blurry so the  car would be visible.

How and why could you improve this project?

I would improve my project in the photo department by improving the quality of my pictures by adding motion blur to the photos to show speed in a still photo. This would improve my FMP as a lot of racing photography made by the professionals includes blur to the photo to show the speed of the cars.. I think this is the main point of my project which I would really like to improve if I was to do it again as I did do a lot of research into professional photography but in the end I couldn’t really figure out how to do add blur to the photo on the day so for next time I would research into how to add blur to photos.

What did you learn from this project?

Throughout this project I learned different skills which I had refined throughout the FMP such as; time management, responsibility and planning. These skills will help me for future projects and time management is a skill which I have developed throughout this FMP. I also learnt how to use a camera, I learnt  how to set up a camera including changing the settings for the location of shoot and the weather, since I was shooting outdoors.

Self Evaluation:

Throughout My FMP I have gained a lot of skills which I have learned through this project. I learnt how to use a camera to take photographs of racing cars for the first time, I learnt how to set up the camera with the correct settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO. After learning this, I now have the confidence to go out and take photographs again and I can use the skills which I have learnt to improve and get better at photography.

I have also developed my time management over the course of the year as earlier on in the year, I wasn’t the best when it came to time management, as for other projects I wasn’t the best when it came to planning out my work and not leaving everything to the last minute. However, for this project, that was something which I tried to change and I was successful in doing that as I was not behind on any of the work for this FMP and have not been panicking at the last minute trying to finish off bits of work which should have been finished weeks ago.

Overall, these skills and mindset which I have developed over the course of this year, will benefit me in the future in different scenarios such as interviews, as I will be able to tell the interviewer my skills and qualities.
