Introduction:
In our practice for our Mini FMP, myself and Callum are creating an NFL podcast, both audio and visual. Our aim is to talk about the upcoming play offs, and the run to the super bowl. We want our podcast to stand us in good stead for our real FMP, so we want to try and make it seem as professional as we can.
The NFL is a worldwide sport, played in America. It is somewhat popular in the UK and it continues to grow season after season. I’d say it’s the biggest sport in its homeland and we want to portray that, over here and produce something that British fans can listen to and relate to. The Americans are always really passionate about the sport they love, as are we and it has been around for a very long time, inspiring people to either play, support or talk about.

(INTRO JINGLE TO PODCAST AMERICAN FOOTBALL THEMED)
PRESENTER 1: Hello and welcome to (Name of podcast). We’ve had a long grueling season with many ups and downs and shocking moments this season, but this is what it has come to, every other team has fallen now and they’re now 2 teams left now who will battle it out at the Hardrock stadium in Miami for the prestigious Super bowl trophy. It’s the (team 1) against the (Team 2). Winner takes all. Joining me today as per usual it’s my colleague Mike Kelleher.
PRESENTER 2: Hello it’s what we’ve been waiting for it’s the final game of the season Callum and I don’t know about you, but I think this is going to be an incredible game we got here to wrap things up for the 100th NFL season.
PRESENTER 1: (INTRODUCE THE MATCHUP THAT WE HAVE GOT FOR THE SUPER BOWL START WITH TEAM 1 THEN MOVE TO TEAM 2)
(TEAM 1)
What a season the (TEAM NAME) have had they’ve gone (NAME THEIR RECORD), such a dominant performance all year for the (TEAM NAME).
PRESENTER 2: That’s right they’ve just had a consistent GamePlan this season and it shows in the results that they have been able to produce this season. (NAME A KEY PLAYER WHO PERFORMED WELL FOR THEM AND LIST THEIR STATS)
PRESENTER 1: This guy has just been up there at the top of his game this season brilliant performance etc.
PRESENTER 2: (BREAKDOWN NOTABLE WINS IN THE REGULAR SEASON AND THEIR PLACEMENT IN THEIR DIVISION)
PRESENTER 1: (ADD TO THIS WITH YOUR OWN OPINIONS AND THEN BEGIN TO TALK ABOUT THIS TEAMS PERFORMANCE IN THE PLAYOFFS). Yeah and it doesn’t stop there because their performance just carried on into the playoffs and that is what has got them to this stage, many teams in the league have a good season but then crumble when they get to the playoffs because it’s just another ball game with the pressure ramped up even higher. (BREAKDOWN THEIR PERFORMANCE IN THE PLAYOFFS).
PRESENTER 2: Yeah and their opponents for this clash (TEAM NAME) in the NFC conference have had one hell of a run with some would say a luck escape due to the early round knockout of the New Orleans Saints in the WildCard round. Callum, a lot of people had the Saints penciled in their super bowl predictions this was a huge upset what’s your take on this?
PRESENTER 1: (ANSWER WITH YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND THEN BREAKDOWN THE NFC WINNER SEASON JUST LIKE WE DID WITH THE AFC WINNER INCLUDING A BREAKDOWN OF THE REGULAR SEASON, PLAYOFF PICTURE AND KEY PERFORMANCES WITH STATS TO TALK ABOUT). George Kittle has been a key asset to getting the San Francisco 49ers this far. What a turnaround for the 49ers where last season they didn’t even make the playoffs with a 4-12 record finishing 3rd in the NFC west. They have had a big changeup to this squad with the introduction of Nick Bosa to the team has really gave this team a fighting edge this season with 9 sacks this season which places him at 4th in the league for most sacks this season. Do you think that he is a candidate for defensive rookie of the year Mike?
PRESENTER 2: Yeah, I think that he is a strong contender for the award especially with 9 sacks. In the divisional game against Minnesota he had 2 sacks alone in that single game so I think that gives him a boosting edge in the leaderboards for this year.
PRESENTER 2: Yeah what a way to end the 100th season of the National football league. Its come down to 2 teams now and I know that I can’t wait for this matchup. When its all said and done, I think this is a great way to end the 100th season of the NFL and what a season we have had overall Callum. Baltimore Ravens have really produced some entertaining games for fans Lamar Jackson has been incredible such an exciting young quarterback for the Ravens I think this guy is only going to get this team better records and they’re going to be a team that everyone looks at for next season with the outstanding performance by Lamar Jackson this season. He’s gone and broke the all time record set by the Atlanta QB Michael Vick for most rushing yards in a season a QB. This record has stood since 2006 and now Lamar has destroyed that record with 1206 rushing yards this season. What a season Baltimore’s own Lamar Jackson has had Callum.

Director statement:
Myself and Callum Insull are making a podcast that builds up hype for the super bowl. We want to provide an introduction to the 2 teams that will be facing each other and breakdown their performance and key players throughout the season including talking about statistics. Statistics are vital for our podcast as we need to have a wide array of stats to talk about so we can further compare one teams performance to another teams performance. The reason that we wanted to create this podcast was because we have a common interest in the NFL and wanted to create something for the other UK fans that also take an interest in the NFL as we thought that there was a gap in the market in the podcast sector.
After we create this podcast, we are going to then create an NFL based talk show as we are using the mini FMP to develop our presenting skills so that we come to do the actual big final FMP, we will be able to put in al of the skills that we have developed over our time on the course into creating something that we would be proud of and would also enjoy creating.
Final draft of story:
The story will be about a guy who is awaiting for an interview for a job that he has applied for. The job pays millions, with lots of luxury items that can also be purchased like cars, mansions, jewellry and yachts. Audience never truly know what he applied for as the intention is for the audience to think about the story more and perhaps add their own ideas to it to make it more relatable to them. The main character will be a man shown looking nervous and uncomfortable whilst awaiting to be called for his interview. Location appears to be a rich penthouse/ tower block. Ambient noise will be louder than usual to emphasise the main character waiting alone. The story will end with a plot reveal and that will be that the guy is actually dead and is awaiting the decision on whether he will go to heaven or hell.
Reflection on my story:
I need to show subtle hints of afterlife through the setting such as colour, lighting and other forms of mise en scene. I think the plot twist is unexpected and will make the audience look back at the short film looking for clues which have been layed out throughout the film.
Reflection of the character in my short film:
The man is never given a name, this is done to create a cloud of mystery which is an ongoing theme throughout this film due to the theme of “afterlife”. Man will show qualities of being nervous and uncomfortable throughout the film. This is done due to him not knowing his place in either heaven or hell or maybe he did something bad in his life.
