Reflection

29th January:

Today I did some free writing for my FMP idea as I wanted to try and generate more ideas for it such as what I can base it around more specifically. Came up with some cool ideas such as decorating the studio with NFL merchandise like caps, jerseys, footballs etc. Overall this free writing session has helped me form a concrete idea for my FMP which I am going to make alongside Callum. I now feel much more confident in my idea and feel like I can move further into pre-production with this project.

6th February:

Today we made a mindmap where we divided it into 2 collums. One for setting and the other for subject and content. This helped us to put all our ideas onto paper so we can see them visually and figure out what exactly we want to do and how can we implement them into our Final Major Project. We also decided to colour code these thoughts so the key words and ideas stand out more which to be honest, is more of a personal preference for our style of learning and planning. Here is a picture of the page of idea generations that we came up with below.

23rd January:

Today we summarised our idea into a 25 word pitch that we will deliver to the class. Me and Callum did this independantly so we both have different takes on what we are going to do.

We also contacted Birmingham Bulls and Tamworth’s American football teams, to see if we could get a potential guest to appear on our podcast. Hopefully we get word from them soon.

24th January:

In our first day back from half term we were given feedback from one our teachers, matt, on our mini FMP and what we could improve on for this FMP. He said that we could turn our podcast into a mini series so we can focus more time on each subject that we wish to talk about as there is big talking points for each.

Today we also had a chat with the college technician, Elliot, about ways to film our podcast such as camera shots we could potentially use and talked about how we should plan a production schedule.

4th March:

Today we did a group exercise where we had to watch a short film from 1898 on youtube and we had to make a film that was inspired by that. After completing this task, I therefore found out how important planning and pre-production is to creating a media product. This has opened up my eyes now and I will now effectively plan as much as I can for our podcast so that we can create the best product possible.

9th March:

Today we found a local graphics artist who specializes in creating logos etc. we thought why not see if he could be intrested in making a logo for our podcast. He was very much on board with it and we contacted him to give him our vision for the logo. He got back to us a few days later with the first logo that he had desgined.

10th-11th March:

Today we contacted one of Callums mutual friends who plays for a british american football team that is local to us both, he has had big injuries in the past that he would like to share with us and he seemed very excited and intrested to do the podcast with us, overall it seems like we got our road ready now that we can ride to our endzone now with a contributor that has lots to share with us.

Today we got some more concept art of the logos that we are getting made by a professional graphics artist, here is a screenshot of the chat below which contains some of the other logo designs he had mocked up for us.

3rd April:

I was doing a little research into this years draft and looking at some updated mock drafts during the corona virus lockdown and I found an offical NFL draft prospect tracker I thought this was very intresting and had so much valuable informtaion that we could use with our podcast for the draft episode so I noted it down and you can find the link and referenence under the pre-production tab on my blog. For easier access I’ll add the link in below. I’ve wrote up a summary of the website and how it impacts this FMP under the pre-production tab on this blog so you will find it there.

9th March:

Today we began our research into the areas of subject that we intend to focus our podcast on. We decided to split the research so Callum researches the draft and formations and I research injuries and culture. After we have researched, we will do a mini evaluation/ review of each others research, this is also a mini challenge between us as we have to display our research in a way so that It can inform and teach someone else.

20th March:

Today I checked over my proposal and proof read it to make sure that it all made sense and then I submitted it. All my focus is now on creating scriprts and formatting aideas on how to present the podcast and make it a “show”.

14th April:

Today I began writing the script for our first episode of our podcast, me and callum agreed that in preveious projects our research format wasn’t the best in terms of easiness to read and understand so we thought what could help us improve this? So since we split up what we were going to research, Callum had research for the second episode whilst I had all of the research for our first episode. We thought why not mka our ow scripts using each others research. So it would challeneg us to make our research look intriguing and easily understtanable for each other to use. I really tried my hardest to approach this task with the minset of me trying to teach somebody really because I am ahving to teachy somebody the information that I have learnt.

15th April:

Today I continued writing my first draft of my script for the first episode of “Behind scrimmage Lines”. I came across a newly released mock draft and as usual things change in terms of predicted destinations for players in the draft so I revised through this new mock draft made by highly creditted scout Daniel Jeremiah I found it very useful so I decided to add it to my list of research, I will also add the Harvard Reference below. Overall though after finishing my draft of the script for the first episode im pretty pleasd with it initially after reading it but I have also sent a copy of it to my colleague Callum Insull to get his thoughts and opinions on it. His thoughts could help me improve it if he thinks that some changes should be made or added to it.

Yesterday after completing the first draft of the script I made for episode 1, this was Callums advice on it. This screenshot is of the text he sent me on what to add, the text before he really liked the detail and heart I put into the mock draft, it came across really informative and didnt feel boring to read he said. So I have made improvements to the script and have added some more talking points to do with injuries, articles to talk about, the impacts of injuries on a team and a players career and we are also going to be talking with our guest, Jack, about how his injuries and asking some Who what where When styled questions as he has some stories to share on our podcast which viewers could find intresting and it only helps us set our podcast our from other NFL podcasts.

21st April:

Not long now till we record the first episode. We have received our very final outcome of our logo that we are going to use for our podcast which was made by a professional graphics designer. Here it is down below.

23rd April:

Today we recorded our podcast on an app called zoom due to our original plans limited to the corona virus outbreak, We managed to record it, but Callums audio was inaudible due to him screen recording the call on his mac. We tried to think of other ways of filming before zoom came into contention but the fact that we had to record from home where we were limited to ways around recording the podcast. Our podcast though we tried our hardest to do and to fix, we were unable to beacuse of us having no other ways to record. Techniccal issues aside, I was pleased with our discussion with the contributor on the podcast, he provided alot of detail on not just the mock draft but his past injuries and himslef playing the game which both me and Callum enjoyed learning about as well. If there is one thing which I thought we achieved compared to our mini FMP podcast, is that we had a unique story to tell that hadn’t just been covered by other NFL forms of media. Jack’s story was different and gives our podcast episode an identity as we did something unique, with that being Jack telling his experiences of actually playing the game at a crucial position that often goes a little unoticed, the offensive tackle.

28th April:

Today I decided that it would be a good idea to create an about me page on this blog, On the page I could introduce people to me as a person and show them what I have done work wise and show my career ambitions and inspirations. I hope that people who see my blog and the work I have produced realise my ambitions and career goal and that they can see that through the work I have produced, I also added some pictures of me and an interview I was apart of with former Aston Villa player Tony morley and a photo of me and my team with him after the interview. Overall after completing the about me section I think it will be an intresting read for the reader as they get to know me as a person a bit better.

29th April:

Today I uploaded our podcast to our blogs which can be found under the final product page on this blog. Even though there was technical issues with our recording, I thought that I should still upload it to show our intentions as our contributor Jack did say alot of good things that can still be heard.
