Evaluation

Final Evaluation of my photographs

Introduction:

My idea for my photograph shoot was to take photos of normal cars in normal places using unique camera angles. I used many camera angles ranging from low angles to a Dutch tilt. I wanted to do this because whenever I see car photographs, I always see expensive looking cars in unnatural backgrounds which have been clearly set up for that certain photo shoot. I wanted to do something different and take photographs of normal road cars that you would typically see on the road, and I wanted to take my photos in natural backgrounds.

Research:

When I started this project, I done some research on famous car photographers to give me help and guidance in what I should be doing for my photographs. I decided to research a total of 3 famous car photographers and their work to find out more about the styles of photographs that they take. The 3 car photographers that I decided to research were Frederic Schlosser, Richard Thompson and Tim Wallace.

I decided to use a technique that Richard Thompson uses in a lot of his photos and that is to turn the headlights on for the photo. I really liked this technique that Thompson uses as it makes the photo stand out more as not a lot of photographer’s photos have the car headlights turned on. I also wanted to do something unique which I haven’t seen been done in a lot of photographs and that is a “Dutch tilt”. I wanted to use this because it would make my photos stand out from other car photos.

Planning:

When planning for my photo shoot I decided to use a Volkswagen Golf GTI turbo as the main subject for my photographs. It was very easy to get a hold of the car for my photo shoot as the car Is owned by my mother, so it was easy to plan a time for the shoot to take place and for the car to be there on time. It was easy for the location to be sorted to use as my background setting as I wanted to try and take photos of cars in normal places, so I decided to park the car at an angle on my drive and this would provide me my background for my photographs, this was also easy to arrange.

Conclusion:

I have enjoyed this project because it has allowed me the freedom to take photographs of something that I like so it allowed me the freedom to take photographs of cars.

During this project, I have learned how to compose better photographs by combining different backgrounds and camera angles, this resulted in a better outcome when my photoshoot was over.

The research part of the project was very interesting and helpful to me as I was able to research photographers that are related to what I am taking photographs of, so I researched 3 famous car photographers. This benefited me because it allowed me to find out the key things that make their photos successful.
